For the ongoing, landscape-themed project Full Circle, a specifically designed camera was used: Based on a 4×5 inch unit, the camera allows a larger, extended format beyond the image circle of the lens. The image generated in the process is circular. The use of perspective and the eye-like image circle make the viewer immediately delve into the scene, and one is literally drawn into the picture to become part of it. Working with sheet film requires a focused, slow and well-considered procedure. Encountering the place at the right time is key to obtain the very essence of landscape and nature, being revealed at a given moment. His work illustrates the process of searching for spaces, locations and sceneries. The traveller’s quest for a place, and the wanderer’s conquest of landscape bear clear reference to 19th century European landscape painting. It is vital to locate and capture the spirit of a place, the Genius Loci, which hints at the beauty and grandeur of nature.
